Dairy industry stages gala night

The New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards come to a glitzy finale with the national gala dinner in Tauranga this Saturday.

Central Plateau Dairy Industry Award regional winners in the running for national recognition: Cameron George, dairy trainee, Anthony and Danielle Kiff share farmers and Jas Singh Mander, dairy manager.

The New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards (NZDIA) National Gala dinner takes place this Saturday (May 10) at Baypark, Tauranga where regional winners announced during the year go on to compete in their categories for national recognition.

The Central Plateau will be represented by Anthony and Danelle Kiff who were announced Share Farmer winners for this region in March, alongside Jas Singh Mander, Central Plateau Dairy Manager of the Year, and Cameron George, Central Plateau Dairy Trainee of the Year.

The awards programme focuses on driving understanding of the issues within dairying, says the NZDIA and what is best for New Zealand as a whole, including environmental issues and the impact surrounding them.

This year, two new awards will be introduced – the Fonterra & ASB First Farm Award and the ASB Alumni of the Year Award. National merit awards will also be announced.

The awards encourage up-and-coming farmers to understand what best practice looks like and to focus on issues like environmental sustainability and animal welfare and recognises those farmers doing well in this field.
