Starlight Cinema's three theatres taking shape

Cinema opening getting closer for local moviegoers as work continues on Oruanui Street theatre.

Leo (6) and Hudson Prince (11) getting in some viewing practice on the bleachers that will hold the seating in one of the Starlight Cinema's three boutique theatres.

While a definite date for the new Starlight Cinema to reopen is still dependent on construction and compliance targets being met – it is going to happen this summer.

Plans are even beginning to take shape for the opening event, says co-owner Tammy Prince, who along with husband Charlie, is refurbishing the former Taupō Vet Centre building in Oruanui Street.

The Starlight’s new website should be up and running soon, said Tammy, from which the public will be able to buy tickets, vouchers and gift cards as well as view the schedule of coming attractions.

Work on the building's interior which will contain three screens in 50-, 40- and 30-seat theatres, and eventually a lounge cinema, was all “go, go, go”, she said.
