A Greening Taupō planting day on tomorrow (Saturday) at Centennial Drive is an opportunity for the public to help bolster a six-year-old community planting close to town.
Robin Ellis, Greening Taupō and Predator Free Taupō coordinator, says the site is between the Taupō Events Centre and the Taupō Golf Club entrance, and the public is welcome to come along and help from 11am.
“We've got about 1800 plants to get in the ground. So, come along. We'll have the holes already dug and they just need to pop the plants in the ground to extend one of our restoration sites along Centennial Drive.”
The planting day has been supported by Unison, she says.
Ellis says the 1800 natives shouldn't take too long to plant.
“We'll have the barbeque going, so get some plants in the ground and then grab yourself a sausage and a hot drink for all…. Done. Fantastic.”
Greening Taupō runs about 10 community planning days throughout the year with this being the sixth.
September planting days include an 11am planting at Hipapatua Reserve on Saturday, September 5 and one on Saturday, September 19 at Whakaipō Bay.
