SH30 Whakamaru Dam
From Monday 17 November to Friday 21 November, SH30 across the Whakamaru Dam will be closed during the day from 8am to 7pm.
- Detour via SH32 → Piohipi Road → Tirohanga Road → SH1 (and vice versa).
- School buses may cross before 8am but must use the northbound detour in the afternoons when returning to Whakamaru or Mangakino.
Work Underway
SH1 Tokoroa to Ātiamuri
Overnight works continue on SH1 from the SH1/SH32 intersection (Tokoroa) to the SH1 Kinleith intersection.
- Full overnight closure: 7pm – 6am
- Detour via SH32 → Old Taupō Road → Kinleith Road → SH1
- Adds approximately 5km and 5 minutes to travel time.
SH5 East of Tīrau
Road widening continues between SH28 Whites Road and Waimakariri Road to prepare for wide centrelines.
- Work continues until Monday 15 December
- Traffic managed with speed restrictions and some stop/go operations.

SH1/SH5 Taupō
A Commercial Vehicle Safety Centre is under construction at the SH1/SH5 roundabout.
- In-road weigh-in-motion scales are installed.
- Camera technology and electronic sign boards are progressing.
- Lane work is mostly complete, with occasional single-day lane closures.
- Shoulder works are ongoing.

SH5/SH28 Harwoods Road
Construction of a new roundabout east of Tīrau is underway.
- SH28 will be closed from Thursday 13 November to Wednesday 17 December
- Detour available via SH27 and SH29
- Traffic expected on the new roundabout March 2026

SH1 Taupō to Tūrangi

Overnight stop/go is in place for asphalting works.
- Work hours: 7pm – 6am, Sunday to Thursday
- Extra shift: Stop/go from 7pm Friday 14 November – 6am Saturday 15 November due to earlier weather delays
- Temporary speed limits are in place during the day
