This year’s Trinity Concert, sponsored by Alison Whittle of Bayley’s Real Estate, on Wednesday, October 14 at the Great Lake Centre, will again be a celebration of the work local students have put into their Trinity College of London music instrumental exams.
Music tutor and Taupō School of Music principal Jo Paull is urging those interested in music to attend to support Taupō’s aspiring young musicians.
The concert is just two days after the students sit their exams, she says.
“Performance is a really important part of their learning, not just taking exams, but actually performing, and it's a great showcase to just come along and watch and see from our very youngest to our oldest students all playing at their very best.”
As well as student performances of pieces prepared for exams, three highest mark awards are presented on the night for: initial grade, grades 1-4 and grades 5-8.
Paull says this year the concert will feature students singing and on piano, cello, violin and flute.
“There's many a child that I've watched over 20 years of these concerts. It's kind of fun because you watch them growing up and growing up musically and some have definitely gone onto musical careers or certainly use their music in everything they do.”
Whether or not they find careers as musicians, many then become members of local groups like the Taupō Concert Band or Taupō Strings Orchestra, says Paull.
The concert, organised by Taupō music tutors, starts at 6pm, entry by koha.
