This year’s annual road safety day in Taupō on Sunday, March 9 has grown to encompass the entire gamut of emergency services.
The day, shuffled to summer from May, will feature a range of services including the Harbour master, Civil Defence, Police, St John and the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter at the Kaimanawa Reserve from 8am to 2pm.
A live demonstration of someone being out of a car with the jaws of life by Fire and Emergency New Zealand and St John will culminate in the arrival of the rescue helicopter to assist.
A barbecue, coffee cart and stands from the organisations in attendance as well as water activities for children, will all add to the atmosphere, says Taupō District Council road safety coordinator Sarah Wraight.
