Halcyon Power Limited, New Zealand's first green hydrogen producer which operates an electrolyser 25 kilometres west of Taupō, has confirmed an initial ground-breaking export shipment of hydrogen to Fiji.
The demonstration shipment in November last year, this country's first-ever export of green hydrogen, was used in the commissioning of a hydrogen dual-fuel generator at Fiji Gas in Lautoka.
Halcyon, a joint venture between Mōkai-based Tūaropaki Trust and Japan's Obayashi Corporation, uses geothermal energy from the Trust's power station at Mōkai in its carbon-neutral process of electrolysing hydrogen from water.
"While helping New Zealand decarbonise, this project unlocks opportunities for hydrogen export and highlights Halcyon Power's commitment to advancing technology, reducing fossil fuel reliance, and driving a greener future," said Halcyon Power's Head of Operations, Aya Inagaki.
