Taupō will commemorate Anzac Day with two services at the War Memorial Cenotaph next to the Great Lake Centre on Thursday, April 25.
The Taupō RSA will host the Dawn Service beginning at 5:50am, with the Taupō District Council conducting the Civic Service at 10:30am later that morning.
Veterans, current service personnel, local youth groups, and community members wishing to participate in either parade should report to Parade Marshal Master Air Loadmaster (Retired) Donald Kerr, RNZAF at the rear carpark of the Great Lake Centre. Participants are requested to wear full-service dress equivalent, including medals.
The Dawn Service parade will step off from the assembly point at 5:45am and march to the cenotaph via Story Place and Tongariro Street. Following the service, participants will march back to the original assembly point.
For the Civic Service, the parade will form up at the same location, departing at 10:25am to follow the same route to the cenotaph. After this service, participants will fall out at the cenotaph location.
Additional Anzac Day services will be held throughout the Taupō District, including in Mangakino and Turangi. Full details of all district services have been published in the local newspaper.
Anzac Day, observed annually on April 25, is New Zealand's largest commemoration event honoring the sacrifices made by New Zealanders in service of their country.
