Water is a precious resource and an Enviroschools event at the National Trout Centre near Tūrangi next month is designed to give students hands-on experiences to deepen their understanding of why.
The Water Encounters - World Water Day on March 20 and 21 will take school children from around the district through a range of activities that explore the vital role of water in ecosystems, its importance to people and nature, and how we can protect and conserve it for the future.
At previous events there have been at least seven activity and presentation stations set up at the venue with an 'expert' at each station to present to and engage with students and a similar number is planned for this year.
The stations use a meaningful local context to share important information on such things as water quality, water use and water conservation with an emphasis on interactive experiences or demonstrations and draw on the expertise of local and regional councils, energy companies, government departments as well as not for profit groups.
