Update 2:26 - road is now clear
Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash on State Highway 5 at Rangitaiki in the Bay of Plenty.
Police were called to the incident at approximately 11:30am today. Initial indications suggest there have been serious injuries, though the exact number of people involved has not yet been confirmed.
The highway is currently closed, with diversions in place around the crash site. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible and to expect delays if travelling through the region.
