One person has died following a two-vehicle crash at Wairakei on Saturday morning (July 19).
Senior Sergeant Fane Troy, Taupō Area Road Policing Manager, said two vehicles travelling on a straight stretch of road collided at about 7.30am.
Sadly, the driver of one vehicle died, he said, while two other people were transported to hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 1 between Link Rd and Kauri Dr, with Hato Hone St John taking the two injured people to Taupō Hospital.
The road was closed for a time while the serious crash unit investigated the cause of the crash.
Senior Sergeant Troy said the Police were asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage to contact them.
