Taupō School of Music principal Jo Paull is stoked that the school is up and running for the year with numbers up overall.
This week saw the second lessons for the year for 120 instrumental students from primary to intermediate school age along with a new initiative called music makers for five- to seven-year-olds being run by Kaylene Carson that has already filled its two available classes.
Keynotes Choir numbers were looking healthy at 35, Paull said, and after a couple of years hiatus the school was starting the Taupō Youth Orchestra up again next term because of the increase in numbers of string players.
Paull said the orchestra would probably begin with around a dozen players, a similar number to the long running Taupō Youth Windband which had already begun for the year and would have its first outing at the Music in the Botanical Gardens event on Sunday, March 9.
The school was grateful for the long running support of the Taupō District Council, she said.
“We really value their continued belief in us and how important we are to the community.”
The school is a charitable institution founded in 1989, with the mission of offering affordable and accessible music lessons to primary and intermediate aged children in Taupō. It uses Taupō Primary School classrooms after 3.30pm on Tuesdays.
