Spring may be in the air by September, and there could be a spring in the step of the audience at the monthly concert at St Andrews Anglican Church.
The Taupō Concert Band will perform very much a dance-oriented programme on Friday, September 4, and, as it has in recent years, will present the concert in the early evening at 7pm.
Once again, it is taking the opportunity to include some members of the Taupō Youth Windband for more concert experience – as it did during The Sound of Movement collaboration with Dance Central at the Malcolm Flowers Insurances Taupō Winter Festival in July.
Conductor Monique Vossen says the compositions for the mid-evening programme originate from the Middle East to Europe and North and South America, likening them to a “well-stamped passport of dance pieces from around the world."
Common to all are rhythms that inspire the listener to move or in some cases relate to a story of figures drawn into a dance they may wish to avoid.
The concert on Friday, September 4 at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Tītīraupenga Street, is $10 adults, children $5, cash only (no eftpos facility).
As usual included in the entry price is an offering of a light supper and cup of tea or coffee.
