Tūrangi is embracing the Easter spirit with festive decorations throughout the town and preparations underway for a community Easter egg hunt this weekend.
Visitors to Tūrangi will notice the Easter bunny proudly displayed at the roundabout and Easter eggs decorating the town centre, all thanks to the efforts of the Tūrangi Community Events Team.
"We have really enjoyed working on the project to bring a little bit of festivities to our town and to brighten things up," Dorene Mills, Chairperson of the Tūrangi Community Events Team, told Lake FM. "We're thrilled that everyone is enjoying them, that's for sure."
The team is now preparing for their annual Easter egg hunt, scheduled for Saturday at the Tūrangi Town Centre from 11am to 1pm. The event follows last year's successful format where children receive passports to follow clues around town.
Additional activities include face painting and the "ravenous rabbit rumble" game, described as a fun take on the classic hungry hungry hippos game.
With over 200 children participating last year, pre-registration is strongly encouraged to ensure no one misses out. Pre-registration will take place on Thursday afternoon at shop 19 near the library end of the Tūrangi Town Centre.
"We just want to make sure that we have enough goodies for the kids," Mills said. "Last year we were nervous that we'd run out and that's the last thing we'd want to happen is someone to miss out because we underestimated the number of people."
The Tūrangi Community Events Team, formed only about a year ago, operates primarily through volunteer efforts and community fundraising, with some support from sponsors like Genesis and Lines Company. The team has been creative with their fundraising, selling approximately 200 pairs of fundraising socks at $10 each last year to help fund their community initiatives.
