Town Centre Taupō's Easter celebrations are already in full swing in the central business district with two family-friendly activities that will run through Easter Monday.
Project Coordinator Ken Harris said this year's scavenger hunt features a change from previous years.
"In the last couple of years, everyone was looking for Easter bunnies in shop windows. This year we thought we'd make it an egg," Harris told Lake FM.
The hunt involves finding at least 10 of 11 Easter egg posters displayed in shop windows throughout the town centre. The boundaries for the hunt include Tamamutu Street to the north, Te Heuheu Street to the south, and Ruapehu and Tongariro Streets to the east and west, including connecting arcades.
"So yeah, families will hopefully get out in droves and be walking the streets over the next couple of weeks," Harris said.
Forms for the scavenger hunt are available from four locations: Luna's, the library, the visitor information centre, and Spacecraft. Participants should return completed forms to Spacecraft by April 21st.
The same form includes a colouring competition on the reverse side. Harris explained that while the scavenger hunt winners will be drawn from those who successfully complete the challenge, the colouring competition "will be judged on skill alone."
Prizes will be awarded in two age categories: eight and under, and nine to 16 years old. Winners will be drawn on April 23rd.
The event is sponsored by Mercury Energy through their community fund.
