Those interested in making a submission on speed limit reversals between Taupō and Tūrangi have until this afternoon Thursday, March 13 at 5pm to be heard as part of the current consultation.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is consulting on some roads (interregional connectors and rural connectors) to determine if there is public support to retain the lowest speed limit on these sections, rather than see them automatically reverse.
Waka Kotahi says making a submission will only take a few minutes.
“We are consulting to understand if there is community support to retain the lower speed limits on SH1 between Hatepe and Tūrangi,” says a release on the deadline.
Details on where exactly these changes could be made are contained on the consultation form where submissions are made.
The short survey / consultation form is on the Waka Kotahi website.
Once consultation closes, feedback will be analysed to see whether support levels mean the lower speeds are retained or they go back up to the pre-2020 limits.
The website also has the list of all the state highways affected by speed reversals in the 2024 Speed Rule.
Feedback on the corridors where speeds are to be automatically reversed is outside the scope of this consultation, the release says, and cannot be captured in the consultation survey form but Waka Kotahi can be emailed with thoughts on these auto-reversals (noting the state highway referred to).
