Vandals have damaged several items integral to the light show at the Malcolm Flowers Taupō Winter Festival.
In a post on Facebook on Sunday (July 5), event organiser Nicola de Lautour expressed disappointment that thousands of dollars’ worth of damage had been done to various parts of the Light Hub on Tongariro South Domain.
She did not want to comment further when approached by LakeFM.
The festival had got off to a roaring start on a very cold Friday evening with fire dancers, food trucks and an hour-long performance by the Great Lake Big Band.
This was followed by other events on Saturday, with evening performances including Liquor and Literature at the Taupō Library and student busking on the domain.
Police have been informed about the vandalism, saying in statement that they had received a report on Sunday morning that property had been damaged at the Winter Festival event set up at the Tongariro Domain.
“It is reported the damage occurred at some point between 6pm Saturday, July 4 and 6am today Sunday, July 5,” the statement said.
“Information in the report is currently being assessed.”
