Valentine's Day was the spur for some sanctioned teenage PDAs or public displays of affection at Tauhara College on Friday.
Students could pre-order a small gift – such as a Teddy Bear, chocolate heart or heart-shaped balloon – which was then delivered to someone they admired during the first class of the day.
Delivery was via the college's student senior executive fetchingly attired in togas to resemble a host of Cupids, and all accompanied by a romantic soundtrack.
One of these cupids, the college's deputy head boy Flynn Harrington says the Valentine activity served a myriad of purposes, fundraising, building school spirit and breaking down barriers.
"It's been really great for the Year Nines to see how this sort of day works," says Harrington. "We're starting off the year with a fundraiser for the student exec, so all the money goes back into the student exec, and we spend it on student hauora, so Hauora Week, Athletics Day, things like that where the whole school gets involved, and it's really great.
"And so people have been pre-ordering little items to get for their friends or their significant others, and then we've just been round in the last couple of days delivering them in our fancy togas and cupid outfits. It's been a lot of fun. And it's really good for the younger students to see seniors getting out there not caring what anybody thinks, doing a bit of a dance and so really no barriers. It's really good."
