Community groups in and around the Taupō district are keen to get their hands on money provided by two different long term grants the Taupō District Council is offering next week, but some will walk away empty handed.

The council will hear over 25 three-minute presentations on Tuesday as a host of community groups vie for up to $460,000 per annum from the $300,000 strategic partnership fund and/or the multi-year contestable accelerator fund.

The accelerator fund can be accessed by up to eight eligible community organizations, with a maximum of $20,000 available annually for up to three years but 24 applications have been received for it adding up to a total of $472,000 sought.

And as the $300,000 in SPF money is likely to go to only one applicant for each of the five areas council wants covered, and 17 applications were received, a dozen or so community groups may miss out on this one.

Money sought by groups for this larger fund totals $670,000, with some of the big applicants being Sport Waikato, Mangakino Charitable Trust and Taupō Family Centre all seeking $50,000, Creative Waikato $55,000, Creative Taupō $80,000 (but applying for both funds), Greening Taupō, Lake Taupō District Sports Advisory Council and Sea Cleaners Trust all asking for $60,000, Waiora Community Trust $70,000, and Bike Taupō $85,000.

The council will announce its decisions to the successful applicants following the presentations.

The full list of applicants and funding awarded will also be made available on the council's website.
