Broadlands School PTA is hosting a creative fundraising event this Saturday featuring a specially designed maize maze cut into the school's adjacent field.

PTA President Celeste Wills says the event will offer fun for the whole family beyond just the maze itself.

"Basically we have planted a maze made out of maize in the paddock behind the school. And we have cut a maze out of it," Wills told Lake FM. "And we are inviting families to come along and go through the maze."

The event will run from 11am to 3pm this Saturday, with entry to the maze costing $5 per child. Adults can enter the maze for free when accompanying children.

"We've just planned a real family fun outing," Wills explained. "There's bouncy castles and face painting, raffles, silent auctions, good food, candy floss."

The school has planted regular maize in a field adjacent to the main school grounds, with local parents volunteering to cut the paths through the tall crop just days ago.

"Luckily we had a few of our dads who donated their time and that sort of sorted that out for us," Wills said. "It's ready to go for Saturday."

While the PTA hasn't officially timed how long it takes to complete the maze, Wills noted that some school children have already tested it and found it amusing.

The event will also feature burgers, a coffee cart, a bake stall, and Mr. Whippy ice cream, with EFTPOS facilities available for payments.

Wills emphasised that the fundraiser is open to everyone, not just Broadlands School families. "Everyone, Taupō, Rotorua. Bring the family down," she said.
