The Taupō Fishing Club is celebrating 50 years with a Tagged Trout Treasure Hunt on Lake Taupō, giving anglers the chance to win cash while enjoying one of the country’s best trout fisheries.
The event runs from 1 December 2025 to 30 June 2026, with ten tagged trout released into the lake. Each tagged trout is worth $500, paid by bank transfer, creating a total prize pool of $5,000.

All anglers must also hold a current DOC Taupō District Fishing Licence and follow all DOC Taupō Fishery Regulations. Only rod-and-line fishing is permitted.
Any tagged trout must be caught, photographed, and presented to Taupō Rod & Tackle within 24 hours for verification. Photos may be used for publicity.
Anglers are encouraged to gift trout to local marae if they are not keeping their catch.
Fishing is at your own risk and organisers accept no liability. Any disputes must be lodged in writing within 24 hours, with the committee’s decision final.
